Emma Anderson (ArtWorks Together)

Emma Anderson is exhibiting as part of the ArtWorks Together International Exhibition 2023 running from August 30th - September 24th at Wentworth Woodhouse, Rotherham.

Emma Anderson won “Best in Show’ at the ArtWorks Together International Exhibition in Rotherham. “Hi, I’m Emma. I do ceramics, clay making, pots and sculptures at Rowan. I also take part in drama on a Friday. I love everything about Rowan. I like to use my skills and it makes me feel positive!”.

For the ArtWorks Together exhibition Emma a clay bird. Emma used two pinch pots which she put together to create a hollow centre. She then smoothed it over, using a kidney tool. Using a variation of tools, she highlighted different parts to create the look of the bird in the clay.

Artworks Together is a non profit creative arts organisation in South Yorkshire, inspiring and supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism or both to achieve their full artistic potential and develop important life skills through creative workshops and placements. At YVAN, we have partnered with ArtWorks Together to support the International Exhibition.

Can you tell us a bit about the piece of work you're exhibiting as part of the ArtWorks Together International Exhibition 2023?

‘It was a bird made from clay’.

Title: Emblem

Emma’s piece was inspired by the American flag. Emma and her mum like to travel together.

Why do you create?

It makes Emma feel ‘independent’, ‘positive’, ‘It is therapeutic’.

Emma enjoys working independently and as a team. She enjoys showing people what he has been doing in events and exhibitions. She thinks it is very important to show people that she can do anything!

Do you consider yourself to be part of an artist network/community, and if so, how does this impact your practice?

Yes, I do’

Emma enjoys working alongside other students, volunteers, and tutors at Rowan. Many of them are artists. She likes to reach out to the local community in Cambridge with links to the museums. She recently took part in a Fitz Fun Day at The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, where she helped to run a clay workshop with another Rowan student and tutor.

What changes would you like to see in the arts sector?

‘Maybe it would be good to see our artwork around the world’.

Emma would like to see more people, like herself, represented around the world through art.
