Accessibility Statement
General
It's important to us that our services can be experienced and enjoyed in the best possible way by our audience. We are working hard to ensure that our website is accessible to all. YVAN have invested time to help ensure that our website and events are made more accessible, with the strong belief that every person has the right to take part with dignity, equality, comfort and independence.
CVAN best practice
We aim to follow CVAN’s recommended best practice where possible by:
Using jargon-free language.
Keeping writing short and concise.
Using trigger warnings for sensitive content.
Selecting colour combinations that have a clear contrast.
Using the core brand typeface, which has been chosen for its accessibility.
Using images that are relevant to our content.
Adding alternative text to images on the website, social and other media.
Playing videos with access to subtitles.
Website
On our website we use the UserWay Website Accessibility Widget that is powered by a dedicated accessibility server. The software allows us to improve the website's compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).
Enabling the Accessibility Menu
The accessibility menu can be enabled by clicking the accessibility menu icon that appears at the lower right of the page. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for the accessibility menu to load in its entirety.
Other Accessibility Options
There are some changes you can make to your computer to make any website, including ours, easier to use on your computer, mobile phone, or tablet. Abilitynet have a great guide which covers areas including:
Making text larger
Using a different font
Changing colours
Using screen readers
Using your keyboard instead of a mouse
See the Abilitynet site for detailed guides
Online meetings
We use Zoom for all our online meetings. Zoom has many features including auto generated captions, options to change display settings and video options. View the Zoom accessibility guide.
Our video content is displayed through youtube. Auto generated captions can be accessed in their video settings, this includes options to alter the size and colour of caption text.
Safer spaces policy
We operate a Safer spaces agreement based on Social Art Networks (SAN) Safer Spaces agreement during all meetings and events.
Disclaimer
YVAN continue our efforts to constantly improve the accessibility of our site and services in the belief that it is our collective moral obligation to allow seamless, accessible and unhindered use for all.
Despite our efforts to make all pages and content accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may be a result of not having found or identified the most appropriate technological solution.
Our website is partially compliant with the [Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard
We don’t currently meet all WCAG 2.1 AAA criteria - we don’t provide sign language for audio content, or provide audio for our written content, all our images don’t contain alternative text that describes the image. Each item isn’t visually highlighted as the user tabs to it. We don’t have a site map. Some interactive elements aren’t 44 x 44 CSS pixels or bigger. We don’t provide a help link on every webpage. These are some improvements we hope to achieve when our team capacity and budget allows.
