Equity, Diversity & Wellbeing Open Meeting
Wednesday 18th January, 13:00 - 15:00, over Zoom
YVAN are inviting co-creators from people passionate about the arts and believe in change to bring their voice and lived experiences to help the creative and cultural sector in the Yorkshire and Humber region make better decisions.
We have set up an Equity, Diversity and Wellbeing working group, and recognise this needs to be expanded and developed to improve inclusion, challenge current practices and share knowledge. Eventually the group could operate autonomously, supported by YVAN to begin with, to enable a programme of activity.
You do not have to be a creative practitioner or a UK resident to join in. We will be operating a Safe Space Policy which everyone will need to agree with, and the meetings will be via zoom, so you will need access to the internet.
We hope to have a meeting every 6 weeks. You are not required to attend every meeting, and we anticipate the initial meeting will develop a series of topics to explore, with dates, so you can come to those sessions of particular relevance.
We look forward to having conversations with you about some challenging issues.
Suggested topics:
Why collect intersectional lived experience about being a visual artist?- (demographic data collection); How do we do that sensitively?; What would we do with this information?
Actions that reduce anxiety in creatives
How do we care for one another? How can YVAN care for our regions artists?
How you Diversify your commissioning process with integrity and authenticity
How to know your unconscious bias and recognise your privilege
Recognising the difference between cultural appropriation and inspiration.
