The launch for our new publication Beyond the Obvious 2 happened on 28th April 2022 and the publication is now available in printed form and downloadable here.

The Beyond the Obvious 2 publication highlights the lived experience of artists from the Global Majority in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
The ambition of Beyond the Obvious 2 is to be a “sector snapshot” that starts to build a shared vision focussing a critical eye on the relationship between artists and the cultural and educational environment in Yorkshire and Humber. To quote from the words of Yuen Fong Ling in the publication:
“When we want to go beyond the obvious, we try harder. Look out from, and around, what is right in front of us, and take an uncertain and sometimes challenging way forward.”
The publication highlights lived experience in the region through art practice and writing. The work addresses specific challenges and their connection to cultural and educational provision. Sheffield Hallam University will be evaluating this “sector snapshot” as part of their commitment to addressing the challenges of decolonising the university curriculum and supporting greater diversity in the region’s cultural life.
Beautifully designed by Azizah Raghib from Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and with an introduction by Yuen Fong Ling (SHU) and an outro by Sunshine Wong (Corridor8, Bloc Projects), the publication will be launched at 4pm on the 28th of March at the Old Post Hall at Sheffield Hallam University where you can meet and hear from the contributors.

Beyond the Obvious (2) is a collaboration between the artists and writers of the region, YVAN and Sheffield Hallam University, designed by Du.st Collective and with editorial support from Corridor8.
It is part of YVAN’s “Beyond the Obvious” programme for 2021/22 which has already supported five emergent artists’ networks through the “Nourish” strand of the programme and will be producing two new Dwell Time podcasts to accompany the publication.
