Can  you tell us a bit about the piece of work you're  exhibiting as part of the Beyond the Obvious on Tour//Rotherham Showcase?

“Uncertain Legacy” speaks to the turmoil of Mother Earth as she experiences the effects of worsening environmental destruction, with little progress being made to correct the damage being done. The child within her represents mankind’s hope, as she ponders what legacy is being left for the generations to come.

Why do you create?

Creating for me is an elemental compulsion, I must express my emotions on canvas and I have worked through many emotional issues during the process of painting. I often feel that any negativity of spirit is released when I do so.

Do you consider yourself to be part of an artist network/community, and if so, how does this impact your practice?

The community of artists/friends that I rely on for support and encouragement are fundamental for my expression and growth. In the UK I have found mutually beneficial mentorships and friendships within the two groups that I belong to, the Peak District Artisans and Walkley Edge Artists.

What changes would you like to see in the arts sector?

I would like to see more appreciation for the arts especially at the Primary and Secondary school levels, where I’ve been told that creative arts studies are often cut in favour of more academic subjects. I believe that there should be room for both in order to foster a well-rounded society.
